colorPol® IR 1300 BC5 - a new product by CODIXX Press Release 12/2003 In 2003 CODIXX launched a series of glass polarizers for the ultraviolet, visible, and near infrared spectral range based on unique technique for the production of high quality glass polarizers using standard soda-lime. Within a short period of time CODIXX aquired users from all over the world for these polarizers which are characterised by a number of excellent properties. colorPol® polarizers are flat like foils, can be processed like silicon wafers, are UV-stable, and resistant to temperatures. They are climate proof. In conjunction with the excellent transmittance and contrast properties they allow the access to new applications which have not been realised before because of missing polarization elements. For the first time, based on the colorPol® technology, CODIXX can realise polarizers which have neighbouring areas of different orientation of polarization or different spectral ranges of maximum polarisation. These patterned polarizers provide all new methods of solution for the optical measurement technology, for fiber coupling, as well as for the optical toolbuilding. Now CODIXX introduces a new product. The colorPol® IR1300BC5 filter is a polarizer which shows high transmittance values and a high contrast ratio within an extremely wide spectral range of 600nm to 1800nm. This polarizer smoothes the way to the middle IR-range and shows that the technology primarily developed for filters within the visible spectral range has by far a bigger potential. With its new product, CODIXX offers an alternative solution to polarizers for the known optical windows of telecommunications at 1060 nm, 1300 nm, and 1550 nm. Because of its easier handling, better contrast features, and its competitiveness in price, the colorPol® 1300BC5 is a real alternative for the middle IR-range, a spectral range which had been reserved for grid polarizers before. Of course, these new colorPol® polarizers feature all properties which distinguish the colorPol®-family, including the possibility to be patterned. The end is not reached yet. CODIXX's developers concentrate on an expansion of the usable spectral range which reaches its limits with the absorption features of the untreated glass. More information will be provided at www.codixx.de or during the Photonics West (24.-29.01.2004) by the Laser Components GmbH (booth number: 1921).Laser 2003 - World of Photonics - Munich Press Release colorPol® IR 1100 BC4: A small-scale revolution from a city on the river Elbe In these days, everbody's talking about nanotechnology in the same way as photonics is the talk of the town; yet, when looking at the outcome of this combination even experts are taken by surprise: The colorPol® IR 1100 BC4 polarizer, first presented at the Laser 2003, World of Photonics, attains characteristics hitherto only known for crystal polarizers. Resistant like glass, it takes the shape of a flat film polarizer, and large quantities are available at appealing prices. Contrast ratios reach levels in excess of 500,000:1 (57 db). Throughout the spectrum from 750 to 1,400 nm, the contrast ratio is greater than 10,000:1 (40 db) and transmittance levels exceed 83%. The angle-of-acceptance range of ± 20° is extraordinary. Given its features, this unique component is not only excellently suited for optical sensor systems or laboratory applications. In view of its very good resistance to temperatures up to and in excess of 400°C it can even be used for direct chip mounting. The colorPol® polarizer will readily withstand reflow soldering processes as it will cope with cleaning procedures involving the use of solvents. It is even resistant to most of the acids known. Just like the entire colorPol®, family produced for the ultraviolet (UV), the visible-wavelength (VIS) and the infrared (IR) spectral ranges, the colorPol® IR 1100 BC4 polarizer combines a great many favorable properties: - Wide-range temperature resistance (field temperature range from –50 to +400°C); - Resistance to UV radiation; - Resistance to mechanical and chemical exposure; - High light transmittance for the 's' wave (polarizing direction transmitted); - Easy-to-size capability (like semiconductor chips, also less than < 1x1 mm²); - Wide angle-of-acceptance range; - Very high contrast; - Resistance to extreme climates; long-life stability; - Marked homogeneity of the degree of polarization / polarizing direction. High-resolution patterning with respect to both peak wavelength and polarizing direction is a feature which makes colorPol®°-S polarizers differ from hitherto available polarizers, offering a potential for all-new fields of application. Polarization Polarization, a property of light connected with its waveform character, is being increasingly used in creating new solutions developed in the fields of sensor technology, displays, telecommunications, and instrumentation. Optical components referred to as polarizers are employed to put this particular feature of light to technical use. Turning non-polarized into polarized light, they govern the decision of transmitting or non-transmitting polarized light, irrespective of their position or orientation, and they are function-governing in diverse applications. CODIXX AG satisfy the growing demand of high-quality polarizers by offering their novel glass polarizers produced in a unique process. This is necessary beause of high-rate innovation in the sphere of information technology. colorPol® - A new family of glass polarizers made in Saxony-Anhalt Polarization, a property of light associated with its wave character, is increasingly utilized in developing new solutions in various fields. These include sensor technology, display technology, telecommunications, and instrument engineering. Optical devices referred to as polarizers are employed to put this particular feature of light to technical uses. They convert non-polarized light to polarized light. They define whether or not polarized light is transmitted depending on their position. Furthermore, they govern functions in a wealth of applications. CODIXX AG, through its novel glass polarizers produced by adopting a unique process, satisfies the growing need for high-quality polarizers. Polarizers marketed lately under the colorPol® brand were developed for the ultraviolet (UV), the visible (VIS) and the near infrared (NIR) ranges. They are characterized by varied outstanding features including - High temperature stability (working-temperature range from -50 to +400°C); - Resistance to UV radiation; - Resistance to mechanical and chemical exposure; - High transmission of light for the S-wave (direction of transmitted polarization); - Easy-to-size features (like semiconductor chips, also < 1x1 mm²); - Wide range of angles accepted; - Very high contrast; - Resistance to extreme climates, long-term stability; - Marked homogeneity of the polarization factor / polarizing direction. The potential of high-resolution patterning with respect to peak wavelength and polarizing direction reflects properties of colorPol®-S polarizers which make them superior to polarizers hitherto available. Moreover, colorPol®-S polarizers enable all-new applications to be opened up. At the Hannover Messe, CODIXX AG takes the wraps off three new colorPol® products. For the visible spectral range, colorPol® VIS 500 BC3 and colorPol® VIS 700 BC3 filters provide a contrast ratio greater than 1:1,000. This adds to a high transmission and, in the case of the colorPol® VIS 700, a broad working spectral range (520 nm - 950 nm), for which values are guaranteed. For the UV range the colorPol® UV 380 BC4 filter is presented, featuring a very high contrast ratio. Alpha-numerical and Graphical Large-Area Displays In the past, the business segment of large-area LED displays has been constantly expanded. Given the availability of high-intensity semiconductor LEDs, recent trends have shown a great demand developing for user-programmable boards that can be read in daylight, even from a large distance. Activities of the large-area display division of CODIXX AG are dedicated to developing, producing and marketing LED-based large-area displays. LED Displays have been put to multi-faceted uses adapted to provide current information that can be experienced as a massage an emotional message. The fascination inherent in delivering newstickers, graphs and pictures independent of time represents state-of-the-art technology. Excellent color rendering and the great luminous power of the diodes employed, while permitting dynamic adjustment to changing light conditions, offer a variety of applications. Typically, CODIXX Large-area LED displays have been used: - as industrial displays (in the automotive industry); - for traffic telematics (traffic management centers); - as menu displays; - as event displays; - as displays in sporting arenas, offices, and banks. Owing to modular construction of display boards, there appears to be a further potential to reach currently conceivable sizes in the range from 0.5 m² to 123 m².
