colorPol® HT Polarizers - An alternative pursued in implementing components of optical transmission technology
Press Release 04/2004 This year's Optatec is the first event for CODIXX AG to present their new colorPol® HT polarizer generation (where HT denotes (H)igh (T)ransmittance). These new products are designed to meet the high requirements which polarizers have to satisfy, in particular those prevailing in optical transmission technology. The colorPol® IR 1550 BC4 HT and colorPol® IR 1310 BC4 HT filters, featuring contrast ratios greater than 10,000:1 (> 40dB) and loss as low as less than 0.1 dB (approx. 98% transmission) at 1,550 nm and 1,310 nm, respectively, and with a refractive index of n = 1.52, are specifically suited for applications in telecommunications (XS, S, L and C bands). The colorPol® IR 2000 BC2 HT was developed for IR applications where a high polarization factor and a very high transmission, in conjunction with a broad spectral range (1.2 µm to 2.5 µm) are of the essence.Like the field-tested standard colorPol® units, these polarizers can be made to all sizes that customers may require, in the range from 1 x 1 mm2 to 50 x 40 mm2 and supplied in shapes as requested (circular, square, reactangular). The new polarizers, like all colorPol® products, boast a wide operating-temperature range (>= -50°C to +400°C), an extraordinary resistance to extreme climates, resistance to high-intensity UV radiation and almost all solvents, acids, alkaline solutions, and distilled water. The large acceptance angle for incident radiation is much appreciated in uses of fiber communications. The filters come with antireflection coating on one or both sides, or uncoated, as ordered. Given the patterning potential of the polarizers with respect to polarizing direction and maximum-polarization wavelength range, reaching patterns as small as 10 µm, special products can be made that are suited for applications not only in the fields of instrumentation and measurement. For measurement uses where requirements such as minimum wavefront distortion and compatibility prevail, CODIXX offer to supply the new polarizers in standard mounts of 12.5 or 25 mm diameter, featuring a wavefront distortion that does not exceed lambda/4.
